Vitality have reached their second consecutive title decider after taking down BIG in the cs_summit 6 upper final.
Meanwhile, the German side drops to the consolidation final to go up against OG in a rematch from the same tournament's group stage, which saw Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen's men prevail in a down-to-the-wire series.
BIG had amassed scary momentum from their previous the series, during which they looked uncontested as they overpowered FaZe, GODSENT, and fnatic without dropping a map, but the Frenchmen proved themselves the stronger side after three closely-contested affairs, conceding the opening Mirage 14-16 before winning Inferno and Dust2 thanks to dominant starts.
The upper bracket final started out with an incredibly back-and-forth Mirage. An early lead went the way of Vitality after Cédric "RpK" Guipouy's 1v1 clutch gave them a forcebuy win in the second round, but it soon dwindled away and BIG started taking control on the offense when the French side gave up three big advantages, courtesy of Nils "k1to" Gruhne and Florian "syrsoN" Rische in 2v5, 1v3, and 2v4 scenarios.
Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut's ace and Richard "shox" Papillon's quad-kill in defense of the B bombsite, as well as another big multikill from the former stopped the rot, and by halftime the two sides were only one round apart. That quickly changed as BIG went on a five-round streak off a pistol round win, putting themselves in prime position to take the opening map, but they still had to sweat for the win.
Vitality managed to reach double digits off consecutive multikills from Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier and Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, and despite the German team winning a full eco with a well-timed tactic towards middle, the map went down to the wire. BIG had to double eco with three map points to their name, which meant they had only one real shot at closing the map, which they managed to do after a tight late A retake scenario.
Inferno followed with Vitality determined to retaliate, with the Frenchmen now being the side who won all the clutches early on as ZywOo saved a hairy 1v3 situation in an antieco and shox added a 1v2 on top of that, running away with a 7-1 lead on the Terrorist side. Late in the half, BIG finally found some success with a couple of clean defenses in middle and B, but they still ended up trailing by five when Vitality secured two more 1v1s.
That deficit was cut to just one after the second pistol went the Germans' way, but despite the slow start and a red-hot syrsoN running rampant, apEX & co. never gave up their lead and remained in control, equalizing the series at 16-13, 1-1.
So the series reached Dust2, a map where BIG had amassed a seven-map winning streak throughout June. This time, the Germans looked out of their depth as Vitality put together a double-digit defense, while it took big plays from syrsoN for his team to stay in contention.
For a time it looked as if Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz's side would be able to come back after dropping the second pistol round, with a halfbuy win propelling their 6-1 run on the CT side, but some key picks from apEX eventually created gaps in the defense, ensuring a 16-12, 2-1 win for Vitality.
